It's a comprehensive curriculum for grades 2-5. Each level consists of a Guide book (a fully-illustrated textbook written in an engaging, comic-book style) and a Practice book (a workbook providing hundreds of exercises, problems, puzzles, and games to reinforce the lessons from the Guide).

The guides utilize many everyday contexts and visual representations to encourage children to think deeply and understand what they’re learning. This encourages a diminishment of rote learning and an increase of applying mathematics to various situations.

The materials cover core fundamentals and then presents these fundamentals at a deeper and more challenging level than typical elementary-school math curriculum. The problem sets are explicitly designed to help students develop the mental grit to handle AMC and Math Olympiad problems and later tackle the kind of non-trivial open questions that real mathematicians work on.

The AMC 10 and AMC 12 are nationwide tests administered by the Mathematical Association of America that qualify you for the American Invitational Mathematics Exam (AIME). Only those with top scores will be invited to take the AIME. The MAA recommends 9th and 10th graders take the AMC 10, and 11th and 12th graders take the AMC 12. You can take the AMC 10 and/or 12 multiple times.

The AMC 10 and AMC 12 each have 25 questions. You have 75 minutes for the entire exam. Note that

**you don't need to get all of the questions right to get a qualifying score.**You just have to do better than most of the other students taking the exam! Keep that in mind as you come up with a strategy for the test. You need to be in the top 5% of scorers on the AMC 12 or the top 2.5% of scorers on the AMC 10 to qualify, so the vast majority of people who take the AMC exams don't qualify. But, if you

*do*qualify, you can take the American Invitation Mathematics Examination, or AIME.**If you do well on the AIME, you can qualify for the US Mathematical Olympiad.**The top scorers from that competition then have the opportunity to train to be on the US team that competes at the International Math Olympiad. (You can find more info on this process over at the Mathematical Association of American website .)It's a long process to get to the IMO, and very few students make it that far.

**But even just taking the AIME can set you apart in the college admissions process,**especially if you are interested in engineering programs. Along with a high GPA and strong SAT/ACT scores, taking the AIME is a way to signal to colleges you have superior math and problem-solving skills. This course will help students to be more ready for do well on AMC 10/12 tests. We will use customized materials for different topics in the competition and also use many previously AMC 10/12 questions both in class and for homework.

**C++ is a powerful general-purpose programming language.**It can be used to develop operating systems, GPU, embedded systems, drones, self driveing cars, , AI, machine learning, jets, browsers, games, and so on. C++ supports different ways of programming like procedural, object-oriented, functional, and so on. This makes C++ powerful as well as flexible.C++ is an intermediate-level language; learning this language will give you a much deeper understanding of programming structure. In C++, you have to write, declare, and explain everything in the source code, giving you a deeper knowledge of all the program parts. Also, the syntax of C, C++, and Java are almost the same, so learning Java and C after C++ will be very easy.

Other languages like Python are much easier to understand because they are almost syntax-free. You don't have to specify everything while writing its code, which makes the programming part easy, but you don't get the opportunity to learn the logic structure of the program like C++. Once you have learned the C++ language, then other languages will be easy for you to learn, as your foundation becomes strong.

This is a class you can't miss if you are planning to take the USACO competitions.

This class will improve students, who have experience with python, problem-solving skills, logic, mathematics, programming sense, confidence, and speaking skills. In this class, we will solve a lot of problems together and make sure students will be able to present their ideas (logic), discuss with their classmates, and work with classmates. All those skills we will work on are in favor of the students not just learning how to code but also how to network with other classmates and communicate their ideas.

This class will extensively work on list, for loops, while loops, if else else if statements, strings, object oriented programming and manipulating data structures. Albeit it looks like there are only a few topics, in the research industry, that’s 70% of what researchers do with Python, specifically in machine learning or artificial intelligent field. Building a rock-solid foundation from those basic data structures and logic, students will be in a better position for their futures because most of the jobs that are related to the STEM major will require some sort of programming experience.**The expected outcome of this class:**

Students will have a solid foundation for ACSL and USACO bronze to silver. This algorithms and problem solving with Python is the equivalent class as Data Structure and Algorithms – USACO Bronze to Silver.**Recommendation:**

Before committing to USACO Algorithms – Silver to Gold, those who are interested in Data Structure and Algorithms – USACO Bronze to Silver should consider taking this class.

We highly suggested students take this class and**Intro to C++**together because USACO Silver to Gold will be using C++ instead of python. So once you finish both classes for Fall, you are solid and ready for the USACO Algorithm - Silver to Gold in Winter/Spring term.**Instructor**: Peng Lin -

**Algorithms are the soul of computing.**Algorithmic thinking, unlike the very young electronic machinery it brings alive, is rooted in ancient mathematics. It can be roughly described as creating "recipes" (well defined sequences of computational steps) for getting "things" (computational problems specifying an input-output relation) "successfully" (correctly) "done" (in finite steps and time).Algorithm design and analysis provide the theoretical backbone of computer science and are a must in the daily work of the successful programmer. The goal of this course is to provide a solid background in the design and analysis of the major classes of algorithms.

In this course, students will develop ability to articulate processes for solving problems and to implement those processes efficiently within their programming. Students will learn to design algorithms for searching, sorting, and optimization and apply them to answer practical questions.**The expected outcome of this class:**

Students will be more confident to solve a lot of USACO Bronze level problems, and be able to solve some problems which are equivalent to the silver level from USACO,**Prerequities:**

Problem Solving by C++/Python or equivalent. -

The link to choose your one-on-one review slot is available on your class page. These review meetings can be conducted either in person or online, based on your preference. In this meeting, we will help you create an effective, personalized college prep plan.**Introduction to new Digital SAT tests**

The digital SAT is**2 hours and 14 minutes**(2 hours and 24 minutes with the break), and it has a total of 98 questions. The test consists of two sections: (1) Reading and Writing and (2) Math. The Reading and Writing section is 64 minutes with 54 questions, and the Math section is 70 minutes with 44 questions. Each section is broken up into two modules of equal length. Each Reading and Writing module is 32 minutes long with 27 questions. Each Math module is 35 minutes long with 22 questions.

There is a 10-minute break between the Reading and Writing section and the Math section. However, there is not a break between the two modules within each section.

Below are the main difference that Digital SAT tests than the regular SAT tests:- The test is computer adaptive, meaning it adjusts its difficulty based on your performance. How you do in the first module of each section determines the level of difficulty of the questions you see in the second module.
- The digital SAT is 46 minutes shorter than the paper SAT, and has 56 fewer questions
- The Reading and Writing sections are combined, and have shorter passages, helping to reduce the number of questions
- More time is allotted to complete each question
- You’ll be able to use a calculator for all the math questions…right on your screen!

While the digital SAT may seem slightly easier, students will still need to study and prep properly beforehand. Let this be a confidence booster for you and help give you some study motivation!

**PSAT 8/9 and PreACT Reading/Writing - A Head Start**The PSAT 8/9 tests the same skills and knowledge as the SAT, PSAT/NMSQT, and PSAT 10—in a way that makes sense for eighth and ninth graders. It measures what they’re already learning, shows them whether they’re on track for college, and lets them know where they need the most improvement. That means students have time to tackle these areas long before they take the SAT.

The PSAT 8/9 helps students determine what they need to work on most so that they’re ready for college when they graduate from high school—and it supports educators as they guide the way.

**PSAT 8/9 Test Prep - Reading/Writing**Most of the middle schools or high schools ask 8th or 9th graders to take the PSAT 8/9 test in October, This class is for students going to 8th grade or 9th grade to prepare the PSAT 8/9 test. This is also a great class to help students to improve overall comprehensive reading and writing (English usage and grammar part) skills.
